Hardwood Veneers
Hardwood veneers are made from a thin layer of real hardwood attached to boards made of engineered wood or pressboard. Hardwood veneers are less expensive and easier to install than traditional hardwood floors.
Pre-Finished Laminates
Pre-Finished laminates can mimic the look of exotic hardwoods.Laminates are often installed as “floating” over the existing floor. In other words the laminate flooring is not nailed or glued to the existing floor, rather the laminate boards are glued to one another in order to keep them in place.
Concrete
Concrete floors can be casual or elegant, they last for life, and they are very hard to damage. A common misconception about concrete flooring is that all concrete floors look the same. This, however, is not true. The customizable options for concrete floors are nearly endless. A popular option that many homeowners are going with is the wet look, which is accomplished by applying a high-gloss clear coat finish. This option also makes the room appear bigger than it is by reflecting more light around the space in the room.
Bamboo Flooring
Bamboo flooring is quickly becoming an extremely popular option, bamboo is an ideal material to use for flooring along with being eco-friendly. Bamboo is a much more renewable resource than traditional hardwood as it requires a much shorter time to grow and can be harvested from the same plants. It is often just as strong if not stronger than most hardwoods and has similar properties to them as well.
Floor Tile
Floor tile, ceramic and porcelain. While both are durable and appropriate to use, there are noticeable differences between them.
Ceramic tile are composed of fired clay with a glaze coating. While usually less expensive than porcelain tile, ceramic are not as durable. Porcelain tile are made of sand fired at high temperature and pressure. Porcelain tile are harder than ceramic and not porous, making them more water resistant.
Carpeting
The most durable and common synthetic carpeting material is nylon, which wears well and can be quite stain resistant. Other synthetic materials are olefin, polyester, and acrylic--the latter, more expensive fiber has a texture more like natural wool. Wool has the most pleasant and natural texture, and is also the most expensive carpet material.
Paint
Flat Paints
Flat Paints exhibit non-reflective properties providing a matte finish. This finish helps hide surface imperfections, and is normally used for ceilings and walls in areas not subjected to a lot of wear and tear, dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms not used by small children.
Satin Finish
Satin Finish also know as eggshell finish, provides soft luster sheen similar to that of an eggshell. A satin finish provides a harder surface finish which is more durable and more stain resistant than a flat finish. This durability makes satin paint a good choice for walls in children's rooms, hallways, stairways and family rooms.
Semi Gloss Paints
Semi gloss paints are very durable, they are easier to clean, and are more stain resistant than satin finish paints. Semi gloss paints are most often used on heavy wear surfaces or areas that are frequently cleaned such as kitchens and bathrooms. Semi gloss paint is also used on wood trim and cabinets.
Gloss Paint
Gloss Paint is a harder, more durable, more stain resistant paint finish. It is easier to clean than all the other paint finishes. Gloss finishes generally make surface imperfections more noticeable. Gloss finishes are the best choice for heavy wear areas like kitchens, bathrooms, furniture and cabinets, floors, stairs, handrails, high traffic doors and trim.

Trim or moulding adds definition and design quality to any wall area or architectural feature: doorways, windows, built-in cabinetry and more.
Crown mouldings should enrich the look of a room, not overpower it. Decorators and interior designers usually advise that you select the width of crown moulding based on the height of the ceiling, usually 1" of depth for each foot of ceiling height. This rule works well for large rooms where a room with 10' ceilings would have 10" crown mouldings. For smaller rooms and lower ceilings, the dimensions might be too wide and you would need to cut back on the width.
Baseboard moulding is installed at the bottom of a wall against the flooring to cover the gap between the two surfaces. A typical home uses baseboards from 2" to 6" deep from top to bottom.
Casing moulding is used to fill the gap between a window and wall or door and wall. A typical home has casings between 1" to 4" wide.
Crown moulding is used to fill the gap between a wall and the ceiling. Crown mouldings can measure from 1 1/2" to 15" or 20" depending on the size of the room, the height of the ceiling, and the grandness of the space. A typical home uses crown mouldings of about 4" to 5".
